Budapest Grand Prix 2024: Shnaider Powers Through to Quarters

Makarova's Defense No Match for Top Seed

BUDAPEST, Hungary - Top seed Elena Shnaider cruised into the quarterfinals of the 2024 Budapest Grand Prix on Tuesday, powering through the defense of Russian qualifier Vitalia Makarova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

A Dominant Display

Shnaider, the world number one, was in dominant form throughout the match, breaking Makarova's serve three times and winning over 70% of the points on her first serve. The Russian, ranked 116th in the world, showed flashes of brilliance but was ultimately no match for the top seed's consistency and power.

With the victory, Shnaider extends her winning streak to six matches and sets up a quarterfinal clash against either qualifier Anna Blinkova or former champion Simona Halep.

Stay tuned for all the latest updates, match highlights, and more from the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix.
